Introduction
From October 15 to 17, 2025, the Center for Area Studies of the School of Foreign Languages held a series of “Ideological-Guidance Tea Sessions” in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. The events focused on preparing students for the 2025 FLTRP·CUP “Understanding Contemporary China” National Foreign Language Proficiency Competition (Multilingual Category, Provincial Level). The Center invited instructors Cheng Huishu, Li Yasha, Li Jiaqi, and Zeng Zeng to provide targeted and in-depth pre-competition guidance for participants in German, French, Russian, and Japanese. By integrating ideological guidance with professional competition training, the sessions aimed not only to enhance students’ language proficiency and cross-cultural communication skills but also to deepen their understanding of the contemporary Chinese context and its global significance through meaningful dialogue and exchange.

Coaching Session Highlights
During the coaching sessions, instructors of each language provided comprehensive guidance in alignment with the competition’s theme— “Understanding Contemporary China.” They thoroughly analyzed the competition rules and scoring criteria, offering professional advice on key components such as themed speeches, reading comprehension, translation, and writing. The teachers guided participants through every stage of preparation—from content development and logical organization to language refinement and on-site performance techniques.
01 Japanese Group
In the Japanese session, teachers and students engaged in in-depth discussions on how to effectively tell China’s stories and share China’s voice in a foreign language.

02 Russian Group
The Russian group focused on Chinese narratives from the perspective of Sino-Russian cultural comparison.

03 German and French Groups
The coaching for the German and French groups focused on how to express China’s development path and core values in authentic foreign languages.

The instructors also shared the winning experiences of previous participants and patiently addressed the specific questions students encountered during their preparation.
Summary
The “Ideological-Guidance Tea Session” effectively advanced learning via competition and promoted application via learning, inspiring participants’ enthusiasm and confidence for the upcoming contest. Students remarked that the coaching was highly targeted, enhancing not only their professional skills but also their sense of responsibility to share China’s voice with the world through foreign languages.
