To help new students better adapt to their learning environment and smoothly begin their postgraduate studies, the School of Foreign Languages held a themed orientation meeting for the postgraduates in Scientific and Technical English Translation program on September 17. Counselor Zhang Wenzhi warmly welcomed all 2025 postgraduate freshmen majoring in translation and introduced the program’s key features, training objectives, and academic management regulations. He encouraged students to adapt quickly to the new environment, cherish the valuable time of study, support one another, and make progress together.

Next came the “ice-breaking” session of self-introductions. One by one, the 47 students took the stage to share their personal experiences, academic interests, future plans, and first impressions of Harbin Engineering University. Coming from diverse regions across the country, each student displayed a unique style—some calm and reserved, others passionate and energetic. Through this engaging exchange, students quickly became acquainted, strengthening class cohesion and a sense of belonging, and laying a solid foundation for future academic collaboration.
Finally, during the “Time Capsule” session, each 2025 postgraduate student in the Scientific and Technical English Translation program quietly took up their pen to write a letter to their future self—three years from now, upon graduation. Deep in thought, they poured their hopes onto paper, envisioning progress in academic research, growth through practical experience, and cherished moments shared with teachers and peers. These letters will be carefully preserved and reopened at graduation. They serve not only as a beautiful wish for the future but also as a solemn promise to oneself—encouraging everyone to stay true to their original aspirations, work diligently, and fulfill tomorrow’s dreams with today’s effort.
