In the crisp and fragrant days of early autumn, on September 24, 2025, the Center for Foreign Literature Studies held an orientation and guidance event for all newly admitted graduate students. The event aimed to help new students quickly integrate into the academic environment, plan their postgraduate studies effectively, and lay a solid foundation for their future scholarly pursuits.

The first part of the event was a disciplinary introduction delivered by Professor Wang Xiaoshu. Centering on the questions of “Why study, what to study, and how to study,” Professor Wang gave a systematic and in-depth lecture. Starting from the historical development and distinctive features of the discipline, she outlined its rich research traditions and unique academic strengths. She then provided a detailed overview of the Center’s resource support system and current research frontiers, broadening the students’ academic horizons. In conclusion, Professor Wang offered valuable advice on postgraduate study planning and personal development, helping the new students form a clear vision for their future learning and research.

The second part of the event was the Postgraduate Orientation Lecture, delivered by Professor Liu Zhitao. His talk focused on key aspects of postgraduate education and was structured around three main modules.First was innovation and practical education, in which he encouraged students to be bold in exploration and to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world contexts. Second was academic competence development**, emphasizing the cultivation of essential skills such as literature review, academic writing, and scholarly communication. Finally, he addressed academic integrity education, solemnly reaffirming the importance of academic ethics and moral standards—a vital “first button” to fasten at the start of every student’s academic journey.

This orientation and guidance event was both rich in content and profound in significance. It was not merely a session for sharing information, but also an inheritance of academic spirit. It is believed that the 2025 cohort will take this event as a new starting point—pursuing their passion with dedication and perseverance, and writing their own brilliant chapters in the vast field of foreign literature studies.
