On January 6, the closing ceremony for the Phonics Class of the “Youth Cross-Cultural Language Competence Training Camp” organized by the School of Foreign Studies at Harbin Engineering University was successfully held in Multimedia Classroom 233. Through systematic and engaging teaching methods, the program helped students master the core skills of English phonics in a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment, laying a solid foundation for their future English studies.

The closing ceremony began in a lively yet orderly atmosphere. During the “Letter Writing Showcase,” the children confidently presented the achievements of their recent studies, with neat and standardized handwriting reflecting their diligent and serious learning attitudes. In the following “Neighboring Letters and Representative Words Q&A” session, students answered with ease and fluency sound-spelling correspondence, demonstrating their strong command of letter order and basic vocabulary.

At the end of the ceremony, Ms. Liu, the course instructor, presented certificates of completion to each student in recognition of their hard work and progress. Ms. Liu provided personalized feedback to every student, while the students also offered constructive evaluations of the course and teaching quality.

Ms. Hou, the project coordinator, noted that phonics is a crucial component of early English education. Relying on the university’s rich teaching resources and faculty strengths, the School continues to improve the program’s curriculum system, emphasizing the dual cultivation of pronunciation rules and language application. Through systematic training, the course helped children develop an awareness of sound-spelling correspondence, initially achieving the teaching goals of reading words upon sight and writing words upon hearing.

The ceremony concluded amid laughter and a strong sense of accomplishment. Many parents commented that their children had not only made remarkable progress in phonics skills but, more importantly, developed a greater passion for English learning and cultivated the habit of expressing themselves with confidence. The School will continue to refine its curriculum design and launch more high-quality English programs for children, contributing to the development of local basic education and the enhancement of young learners' English literacy.
