On March 9, Yao, Vice Secretary of the CPC University Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, visited the School of Foreign Studies to conduct research and provide guidance on the school's work for the new semester. Members of the school's leadership team and assistant deans attended the research symposium.

Dean Zhu briefly reported on the return of faculty members and students to campus and gave a comprehensive introduction to the progress of the School’s key discipline, Area Studies, the advancement of the sixth-round faculty appointment process, achievements in talent team development, and outcomes in international cooperation and exchange.

Yao fully affirmed the achievements made by the School of Foreign Studies in recent years and put forward clear requirements and expectations for the School’s future development and key tasks:

First, the School should fully recognize the new circumstances and opportunities currently facing the university's development, effectively communicate the spirit of the university's spring semester work conference to every faculty and staff member, and make thorough ideological preparations for the upcoming reforms while maintaining firm confidence in the university's broad and promising future.

Second, the School should ground its work in its actual development context and conduct detailed and systematic reviews and analyses of all aspects, including discipline development, faculty construction, teaching, and research, in order to accurately identify both strengths and weaknesses.

Third, the School should objectively evaluate its achievements while remaining aware of existing shortcomings, actively learn from advanced experiences of related disciplines and peer institutions both at home and abroad, and seek new breakthroughs in development.

Fourth, the School should tap into its potential and strengthen momentum for development by making better use of existing resources and fully mobilizing the enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity of faculty and staff, thereby unleashing the School’s internal vitality.

Fifth, the School should transform its development vision into concrete actions through scientific planning and careful implementation, ensuring that all development goals are supported by clear roadmaps and timelines.

Sixth, the School should carry forward the spirit of perseverance and ensure that all work arrangements are effectively implemented and produce tangible results.

Seventh, the School should firmly shoulder its political responsibility for Party management and governance, ensuring that comprehensive strict governance of the Party is fully carried out.

Eighth, the School should strengthen the cultivation of teachers' ethics and professional morality, leveraging high-quality Party building to lead and underpin the high-quality development of the School's undertakings.

Yao concluded by emphasizing that the School of Foreign Studies should firmly seize the major opportunity brought by the university’s deepening comprehensive reforms, demonstrate courage in overcoming difficulties, and carefully formulate long-term plans. The School should steadily advance all undertakings step by step and contribute greater strength to the university’s overall development.

On behalf of the School, Party Secretary Wu and Dean Zhu expressed gratitude to Yao for his guidance and to the university for its long-term support. They stated that the School would further unify thinking, build consensus, and promote all tasks with greater enthusiasm, a more pragmatic approach, and stronger measures, striving to open a new chapter in the development of the School of Foreign Studies.
