Affiliated to the School of Foreign Studies in Harbin Engineering University, Center for Pragmatics Study is fully dedicated to the cutting-edge research on the diverse pragmatic interfaces of modern discourse. Our research encompasses a range of dimensions, covering almost all the sub-branches of pragmatics regarding its connection with ontology, cognition, literature, language acquisition, culture, prosody and text, etc. The center is motivated as usual by the inspiring perspectives and inspirational methodologies to uncover, analyze, and revisit the pragmatic attributes and veins of discourse, particularly within the context of globalized communication that holds significant socio-cultural significance in the ensuing areas such as politics, economy, science, education, media, and daily life.
Through a decade of development, the center has nurtured quite a few early-career scholars in pragmatics through graduate and postgraduate programs. Among them, over ten Ph. D. candidates are now studying in both domestically and internationally eminent universities to continue their journey of pragmatics research, with three graduated with honor from National University of Singapore and Nanjing University. Moreover, dozens of students are currently pursuing M.A. Degree in the field of pragmatics worldwide after they finished the training in our center. With Professor Yansheng MAO and Associate Professor Fei YUAN as the deputy heads, the center is comprised of a vibrant cohort of 17 members, including one Ph. D. candidate and three M.A. students.
We extend a heartfelt invitation to experts and scholars to grace us with presence, insights and advice. We sincerely welcome anyone with burning interest in doing pragmatics to navi
