The Centre for Maritime Literature Studies of the School of Foreign Studies was established in April 2021, in line with the requirements of Harbin Engineering University (HEU) for the construction of “New Liberal Arts Discipline” and “Double First-Class Initiative” in the School of Foreign Studies, supporting School’s “14th Five-Year Plan” and the construction of first-class doctoral degree program of foreign languages and literature discipline.
Since it founding, the Centre has been committed to the translation and study of academic literature concerning “shipbuilding, ocean and nuclear engineering”, serving both the society and the development of the School of Foreign Studies, as well as HEU, and actively carrying out language service inside and outside the University. The Center has translated more than 3 million words of professional academic literature for institutions such as the School of Nuclear Science and Technology of HEU, Yantai Research Institute of HEU, China Institute of Marine Technology& Economy of China Shipbuilding Group Corporation Limited, Shandong Marine Resources and Environment Research Institute, and China Coast Guard Academy. To support the development of advantageous disciplines of HEU, The Center also undertakes the construction of corpus and terminologies for “shipbuilding, ocean and nuclear engineering”. In the future, the Center for Maritime Literature Studies will continue to focus on the construction of “shipbuilding, ocean and nuclear engineering” corpus, which may provide a sound basis for the translation and study of related literature.
