The Center for Foreign Language and Literature currently consists of 8 full-time faculty members. It is responsible for graduate student cultivation in various sub-disciplines under the primary discipline of Foreign Language and Literature, including Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI). The center also manages the daily activities related to the teaching, research, and other aspects of master mentors and course teachers in this field.
The construction and development of the Foreign Language and Literature discipline has always emphasized a balanced approach between language teaching and academic research, as well as the integration of theoretical studies and practical applications, centering on a people-oriented approach and placing importance on interdisciplinary frontier exploration. Research areas encompass literature, linguistics, translation, and regional/country-specific studies. The development goal of the center is aligned with the “14th Five-Year Plan” doctoral program construction objective. It aims to fully leverage the academic strengths of its faculty team, engage in relevant field research and collaborative innovation, produce high-level research achievements, promote research-driven teaching, achieve the mutual development of teaching and research, thus expediting the advancement of the university’s “Double First-Class” initiative.
In the past five years, the faculty and mentors of this discipline have collectively published 13 monographs and translations, authored 15 textbooks. They contributed 247 research papers, nearly 70 of which have been included in databases such as SSCI, CSSCI, and the PKU Core Collection. They have undertaken 2 national social science projects, 8 projects from the Ministry of Education's humanities and social sciences research program, and close to 70 provincial, ministerial, and external projects. They have also received more than 50 awards at the provincial and ministerial levels. The structure of the academic team is well-balanced, with distinct research characteristics.
