The Second Teaching and Research Department of College English consists of twenty-one faculty members, including one Professor, seven Associate Professors and thirteen Lecturers. Among them there are two Supervisors for Master students and twenty-one Academic Advisors for Undergraduate students. Seven teachers have been Academic Visitors at the top universities such as Cambridge University in UK and the University of California, Berkeley in USA. Twenty-one teachers are the members of scientific research teams in the School of Foreign Studies, engaging in academic research and insisting on the integration of teaching and research.

Since its establishment, the department has primarily undertaken the teaching of one undergraduate course in “College English” and four graduate courses, accumulating over nine thousand credit hours annually. It educates around four thousand Undergraduate students and about ten Master students in each academic year. In recent years, the department has undertaken nearly thirty provincial and university-level teaching reforms and research projects, published over seventy papers, edited or contributed to approximately twenty textbooks and publications and received one Award from the Ministry of Education and over thirty Awards at the provincial and university-level.

The department has rigorous scholarship, regarding the focusing on the “double first-class” plan as a principal line. In the context of New Engineering, it focuses on the construction of the brand course College English, and the integration of ideological and political education into the curriculum and extensively utilizes modern teaching methods to constantly improve the quality of teaching. It also shoulders the responsibility of cultivating students morality, resonating with the development of the School of Foreign Studies, and contributing to the cultivation of top innovative talents for the distinctive advantages of HEU in Naval Architecture, Ocean Development and Nuclear Power Application.
